Short biography

Tjerand Silde is an Associate Professor in Cryptology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he leads the NTNU Applied Cryptology Lab. His research focuses on lattice-based cryptography, advanced digital signatures, and zero-knowledge proofs.

Longer biography

Tjerand Silde is an Associate Professor in Cryptology at the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, where he has led the NTNU Applied Cryptology Lab since 2023. He also works as a Security and Cryptography Expert at Pone Biometrics.

His research focuses on lattice-based cryptography as a foundation for advanced digital signatures and zero-knowledge protocols, with applications to post-quantum security, privacy-preserving authentication, and electronic voting. He received his PhD in Mathematical Sciences from NTNU in 2022. His work on anonymous tokens for the Norwegian contact tracing app received the Norwegian Data Protection Authority’s Privacy by Design Award in 2021.

He was General Chair of IACR PKC 2025, serves on the program committees of leading cryptography conferences, and teaches applied cryptography and secure cryptographic implementations at NTNU. Beyond academia, he is a frequent voice in Norwegian media on encryption, surveillance, and the quantum threat, has testified as an expert witness on encryption in Norwegian courts, and has co-authored open letters from hundreds of scientists warning against the EU’s proposed Chat Control regulation.
